I think you've done yourself a bit of a disservice not reading these stories before Cruel Summer, as the seeds for Cruel Summer are planted all throughout the original series. I've read most of Brubaker's work, here's my rankings:Ĭriminal (the original Icon run from the mid-2000s): Just great crime stories all around. 6/12/2023 0 Comments London's Labyrinth by Fiona Rule![]() ![]() Claiming to be the world’s taxi it has already beaten off competition to be New York’s official taxi of choice. Next off the starting blocks is the Nissan NV200. Rear wheel steering manages to overcome the elusive 25ft turning circle required by TfL’s Condition of Fitness for taxis. For the driver it has been a revelation in driving, it feels as if you are behind the wheel of – well a Mercedes. Like London buses, you wait for one to come along and three arrive at once.įirst was the Mercedes, looking like a van with windows apart from being – sometimes – painted black and an attempt to distinguish it from white van man, while it most certainly doesn’t resemble a London cab. ![]() Apart from the small number of Metro cabs on the street this vehicle has dominated the cab trade with cabbies inevitably complaining that that there was no choice in which vehicle they drove. ![]() He old FX eventually transmogrified into the imaginatively named TX series looking remarkably similar to its predecessor it was easily recognizable. It had its faults – Kamikazi steering which when confronted by a narrow gap would take it into its tiny brain to swerve without the intervention of the driver. ![]() For years the London cab has been easily recognisable by tourists and residents alike, its design reminiscent of a more gentle age of old fashioned continuity and dependability – well sometimes. ![]() 6/12/2023 0 Comments Every thug needs a lady book![]() ![]() A drama-filled quick read that will leave you wanting more. New York Times bestselling author Wahida Clark's iconic Thug series takes readers into the streets-and into the heart of a criminal world where even love can be a dangerous choice. ![]() ![]() This shift of focus can perhaps best be seen in the contrast between Kempis and somebody like Gregory the Great in his ‘Book of Pastoral Rule’. ![]() On the one hand this shouldn’t be particularly surprising the book was written during a period of transition between the Catholic church of the middle ages and the beginnings of the Reformation, and therefore it still has much of the skewed gospel which was prevalent in the church as a whole, though it seems almost a rebellion against the church-as-salvation mindset of the Catholic church, instead focusing on the actions of the individual and thereby resulting in a legalism similar to the later legalism of the early 20th Century. Kempis has many bits of advice and words of wisdom for molding one’s life to more closely reflect Christ’s, the problem with this is that it seems to come at the expense of the gospel. Perhaps the strongest point of Kempis‘ text is its strong sense of humility and the drive for the Christian to be more Christ-like. It fits into the time period of the transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, and is one of the best selling devotional texts of all time, and while the pious aspect of the text is at the top of it’s class, the underlying theology is abit of a mess. ![]() The Imitation of Christ falls into the category of what one might call ‘classic Christian devotional’. ![]() ![]() I woke up thinking I was a healthy, happy middle-aged woman,” she says. “It’s just so bizarre because when I got up that morning I went for a 10k run.
